There’s rain, there’s pleading, there’s a guy with a boom box outside her window – wait, did we mention that guy is Thomas Rhett?

In the video for his latest single, “Crash and Burn,” the country singer gets dumped by the side of the road and spends the rest of the video running around Nashville, adorably trying to get back on his (former) lady’s good side. It doesn’t work on her, but it sure works on us!

“I think any guys can relate to the scenes in this video…we’ve all been in this guy’s shoes trying to do whatever it takes to win back a girl!” Rhett, 25, tells PEOPLE exclusively. That’s all in the past now – the musician has been happily married to wife Lauren for close to three years.

“Crash and Burn” is the first single off Rhett’s forthcoming second full-length album. A release date for the collection has not yet been named but the Bruno Mars-loving artist (and son of singer-songwriter Rhett Atkins) has shared that the album will follow “Crash and Burn”‘s soul-funk-country suit.

Rhett has been out on the road with Florida Georgia Line in support of his 2013 debut, It Goes Like This. (That album yielded him three No. 1 singles on the Billboard country charts.) A full list of the FGL tour and his interspersed festival stops can be found on his website.
