Livestreaming has become quite popular among millennials, and it only seems to be growing in popularity. Several companies are creating their own livestream service, and Instagram appears to want a piece of the pie.

Meerkat kickstarted this trend, and Twitter followed soon after. It didn’t take very long for Facebook to get in on the fun, so right now everyone with a computer or smartphone has the means to livestream, just as long as they have a working internet connection.

It should be noted that Meerkat is a shadow of its former self, and will likely never become relevant ever again. Meerkat creators will now focus on House Party.

As for Instagram, a new report from a Russian website suggests the feature might soon roll out to users in the coming weeks or months. This is rather surprising since Facebook owns Instagram, and the social network already is dabbling in the livestream department.

It’s still uncertain if Instagram would give this feature a specific name, but from what the Russian website had to say, the button used to initiate a livestream had the words “Go Insta!” on it. We’re guessing “Go Live!” is so 2015.

Instagram is yet to officially talk about this feature, but if everything is going along well, it shouldn’t take long. We’d also like to know if Instagram is using the Facebook Live streaming technology, or if it will use its own.

Another thing we’ve noticed is an image with what appear to be channels for streamers. If this feature is included, then folks on Instagram who want to easily follow what others are doing live, should have an easy way to do it.

At the end of the day, we’ll have to wait and see what the official message is when this feature is fully rolled out and announced by the company. It shouldn’t hurt to have another way to livestream whenever the need arises.

Livestreaming doesn’t only come from social networks alone but can also be assisted with other technologies. Tencent is working on a drone known as the WeChat Drone.

Users can take advantage of its streaming capabilities because the livestream aspect is done through the WeChat service that is built directly into the drone’s software.
