2020 marks the 20th anniversary of Christopher Nolan\u2019s breakthrough hit, Memento<\/em>, and the director is celebrating the occasion by making another time-bending thriller. The first trailer for his 11th feature, Tenet<\/em>, debuted today and based on this two-and-a-half minute taste, it\u2019s going to be another A-list mindbender from the architect behind Inception <\/em>and The Dark Knight <\/em>trilogy. As always with Nolan works-in-progress, specific details about the plot of Tenet <\/em>are scarce. What the trailer does <\/em>reveal is that the movie\u2019s central character \u2014 played by breakout BlackKklansman <\/em>star, John David Washington \u2014 has precognitive abilities that are put to the test by the movie\u2019s action-packed plot. \u201cThat test you passed? Not everybody does,\u201d remarks character actor Martin Donovan after Washington wakes up from what we have to assume was his final exam before being put into the field. \u201cWelcome to the afterlife.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While the specifics of Washington\u2019s mission are cloudy, the stakes couldn\u2019t be higher: His job is to stop the outbreak of World War III. His partner-in-prevention is Robert Pattinson, who in a funny coincidence was in the middle of filming Tenet <\/em>when he discovered he\u2019d be taking over Christian Bale\u2019s old Bat-amor as the new Dark Knight. And yes, Nolan did have some advice for Gotham City\u2019s newest citizen. \u201cChris told me a little bit about how to get the camo off my face \u2014 that amongst other things,\u201d the actor told Yahoo Entertainment earlier this year<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pattinson also could have sought Bat-advice from former Alfred, Michael Caine, who continues his tradition of appearing in every Nolan movie. Joining the iconic British actor in\u00a0Tenet<\/em>\u2019s A-list ensemble Elizabeth Debicki, Kenneth Branagh and Himesh Patel. As always, though, the real star of\u00a0Tenet\u00a0<\/em>promises to be Nolan\u2019s elaborately constructed narratives and emphasis on practical action sequences that happen in real locations around the world. That\u2019s the mixture that has Twitter so enthused. No less an authority than\u00a0Mission: Impossible \u2014 Ghost Protocol\u00a0<\/em>director, Brad Bird, led the praise for Nolan\u2019s vision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
