People<\/em><\/a>\u00a0at the time, the four were offered $50 million by impresario Bill Sargent, a pioneer in pay-per-view events, to reunite for a concert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\u201cWe did talk one time. There was a crazy offer out there,\u201d Starr explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Starr, the group ultimately decided against it because of the opening act that Sargent had in mind: a man fighting a great white shark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe called each other to see what we think,\u201d said Starr, admitting the shark was a dealbreaker. \u201cWe decided not to do it because the opening act was a guy biting a shark. So we thought no.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, he admitted that until the death of John Lennon in 1980, followed by that of George Harrison in 2001, he\u2019d always been hopeful that The Beatles would reunite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIf John and George had not died there was surely a possibility of that. Paul and I are still on the road. John would have still been on the road,\u201d he said. \u201cI don\u2019t know about George. We\u2019d still be doing what we love to do. Maybe separately, maybe together. Nobody knows.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In fact, Starr confessed that he had initially assumed The Beatles\u2019 breakup would be more of a temporary hiatus than a permanent split.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhen we finished\u00a0Abbey Road<\/em>\u00a0I did not walk away thinking that\u2019s the last album. I thought \u2018we\u2019ll be back in how many months and we\u2019ll do another\u2019. Between times we did actually break. No one went away thinking \u2018That\u2019s it,’\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI didn\u2019t leave the studio thinking that will be the last record we\u2019d ever make. I never thought that. I didn\u2019t think it would be the last time we\u2019d ever tour together either,\u201d he added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
