Taylor Swift made her a triumphant return to the stage \u2014 for the first time in seven years \u2014 at the Academy of Country Music Awards 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The superstar singer sang \u201cBetty,\u201d<\/a> from her \u201cFolklore\u201d album<\/a>, and of course the song is packed full of lots of hidden meanings<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On Taylor\u2019s 2020 album \u201cFolklore,\u201d there are a collection of three songs that refer to a teenage love triangle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n These three love songs explore the love triangle from all three people\u2019s perspectives at different times in their lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The first two songs in the trio are \u201cCardigan\u201d and \u201cAugust.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cBetty\u201d is the third song to complete the triangle, and the lyrics are from the perspective of James \u2013 a 17-year-old boy who cheated on the title character Betty with another girl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In the song we learn how this blows up when ensues the teenagers all return to school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n James tries to apologize to Betty by using his immaturity as an excuse for his behavior towards her, and for cheating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Taylor went into more detail about the track on Country Radio<\/a>, and said: \u201cJames has lost the love of his life basically and doesn\u2019t understand how to get it back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI think we all have these situations in our lives where we learn to really, really give a heartfelt apology for the first time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cEverybody makes mistakes, everybody really messes up sometimes, and this is a song that I wrote from the perspective of a 17-year-old boy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI\u2019ve always loved that in music you can kinda slip into different identities and you can sing from other people\u2019s perspectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cSo that\u2019s what I did on this one.
