It turns out the big news from last week wasn\u2019t that Samsung finally\u00a0ditched the bizarre bean design<\/a>\u00a0for its wireless earbuds, it\u2019s that the company plans to dominate the \u2018kids of the late \u201890s\u2019 demographic with a\u00a0charging case cover<\/a>\u00a0that camouflages the Galaxy Buds Pro as a\u00a0retro clamshell cellphone<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Days after a new product category is announced accessories for said products start trickling out, and if you\u2019ve been using a set of Apple AirPods for a few years you\u2019ve probably seen hundreds of ways to adorn and protect their tiny charging case. But accessory makers tend to flock to the most popular products, and last year\u2019s Samsung Galaxy Buds Live aren\u2019t that yet. That\u2019s probably why out of the gate Samsung itself has created a couple of fun protective cases for its new\u00a0Galaxy Buds Pro<\/a>\u00a0turning the wireless earbuds into a (nonfunctional) retro Samsung Anycall T100 or Anycall E700 cellphone.<\/p>\n

Some\u00a0sites are reporting<\/a>\u00a0that the Anycall charging case covers are only available as in-store gifts when the Galaxy Buds Pro earbuds are purchased in-person in retail outlets in South Korea. But the\u00a0Samsung website<\/a>\u00a0does list them as being an optional add-on if you purchase the Galaxy Buds Pro online, adding about $30 to the cost of the $200 headphones. That\u2019s not exactly cheap, you can actually get an entire pair of\u00a0decent but basic wireless buds for $30<\/a>, but for those of us who got our first mobile phones 20 years ago, the nostalgia here might\u00a0almost be\u00a0impossible to resist.<\/p>\n
