Paul McCartney<\/a>\u00a0will tell the stories behind 154 songs he wrote throughout his career in his\u00a0upcoming book,\u00a0The Lyrics: 1956 to the Present<\/em><\/a>, due out November 2nd. The tunes (detailed below) include titles from his work with the\u00a0Beatles<\/a>,\u00a0Wings<\/a>, and his own solo recordings. It also includes the words to an unrecorded Beatles song, \u201cTell Me Who He Is,\u201d from the early Sixties; McCartney discovered the handwritten lyrics in a notebook while researching the book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The anthology features McCartney\u2019s handwritten lyrics, previously unpublished photos, drafts, and drawings. He accompanies each entry with commentary about his creative process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMore often than I can count, I\u2019ve been asked if I would write an autobiography, but the time has never been right,\u201d McCartney, now age 79, wrote in the book\u2019s foreword. \u201cThe one thing I\u2019ve always managed to do, whether at home or on the road, is to write new songs. I know that some people, when they get to a certain age, like to go to a diary to recall day-to-day events from the past, but I have no such notebooks. What I do have are my songs, hundreds of them, which I\u2019ve learned serve much the same purpose. And these songs span my entire life.\u201d\u00a0He also used some of this statement in\u00a0a teaser video<\/a>\u00a0for the tome, which showed photos of the singer from throughout his life and was set to \u201cCalico Skies,\u201d a track on his\u00a0recently reissued 1997 solo LP,\u00a0Flaming Pie<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beginning the week of publication, the British Library in London will host a free exhibition of the songwriter\u2019s handwritten lyrics and photos. The showcase, dubbed Paul McCartney: The Lyrics<\/em>, will be available to view from November 5th through March 13th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
