One of the year’s most eagerly anticipated movies,\u00a0Dune<\/a><\/em>, is finally here. It was first reported that director Denis Villeneuve (Arrival<\/em>,\u00a0Blade Runner 2049<\/em>) was working on an adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic sci-fi novel in 2016, and excitement grew as he attracted a top drawer cast led by Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet,\u00a0Zendaya<\/a>, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac and Charlotte Rampling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hype only snowballed as the\u00a0trailer<\/a>\u00a0gave us glimpses of the film’s stunning visuals and undeniable sense of grandeur. Then,\u00a0Dune<\/em>\u00a0premiered at the Venice Film Festival in September received mostly very positive reviews from critics. It currently holds an\u00a083% fresh rating<\/a>\u00a0on Rotten Tomatoes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is all the more remarkable because Herbert’s novel has often been described as\u00a0“unadaptable”<\/a>\u00a0due to its complex plots and the way it deals with deeply serious themes like religion and imperialism. A previous\u00a0Dune<\/em>\u00a0movie made by\u00a0Twin Peaks\u00a0<\/em>director David Lynch in the early ’80s is widely regarded as a valiant failure. Now, since the new\u00a0Dune<\/em>\u00a0opened in cinemas Thursday, the internet is awash with positive reactions to the 156-minute epic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
