The show debuted in April 2014, becoming the network\u2019s first and highest-rated series, and serving as an entrypoint for scripted originals for the cabler. However, \u201cSalem\u201d has been eclipsed of late by new original series \u201cUnderground,\u201d which will return for a second season on Mar. 8, and \u201cOutsiders,\u201d which was picked up for a second season in March.<\/p>\n<p>Created by Brannon Braga and Adam Simon, \u201cSalem\u201d stars Janet Montgomery as\u00a0Mary Sibley, a witch who controls the Salem witch trials. Shane West plays her long-lost love who returns to Salem.\u00a0Seth Gabel, Ashley Madekwe, Tamzin Merchant, Elise Eberle and Iddo Goldberg also star, and Lucy Lawless and Stuart Townsend\u00a0joined the show in its second season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are\u00a0grateful to WGN America and Fox 21 for being terrific partners and giving us free reign to create a satisfying conclusion \u2014 one we believe respects our love of storytelling and the show\u2019s passionate fans,\u201d\u00a0Braga and Simon said. \u201cWe knew this would be the third and final season and were able to craft an exciting climax to Mary\u2019s transformational saga.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<i>\u2018<\/i>Salem\u2019 is a fantastic show that greatly contributed to our successful launch into original programming,\u201d said Matt Cherniss, president and general manager, WGN America and Tribune Studios. \u201cWe thank Brannon, Adam, our talented cast and our partners at Fox 21, for entrusting us with their unique and remarkable vision for the world of \u2018Salem.\u2019\u00a0 We also thank the fans for their loyal support of the show.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fox 21 Television Studios produces \u201cSalem.\u201d\u00a0Braga and Simon serve as exec producers, along with Josh Barry and Jeff Kwatinez of Prospect Park, and Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson.
