Astute viewers have known for awhile now that Universal\u2019s upcoming remake of\u00a0<em>The Mummy<\/em> could serve as a jumping-off point for a new film franchise featuring Universal\u2019s stable of classic monsters. After all, in addition to Sofia Boutella\u2019s\u00a0titular monster and Tom Cruise\u2019s intrepid adventurer, Nick Morton, the film also features Russell Crowe as the conspicuously named Dr. Henry Jekyll. Now, with just a few weeks to go before\u00a0<em>The Mummy<\/em>\u2018s release, Universal has released more details about the incipient franchise, which will be known as the Dark Universe. In addition to the characters introduced in\u00a0<em>The Mummy<\/em>, Dark Universe films will also feature Johnny Depp as the Invisible Man and Javier Bardem as Frankenstein\u2019s Monster.<\/p>\n<p>The next installment of the franchise will be\u00a0<em>Bride of Frankenstein<\/em>, currently set for release on Feb. 14,\u00a02019 \u2014 a very monstrous Valentine\u2019s Day. That film will be directed by Bill Condon (<em>Beauty and the Beast<\/em>) and will feature Bardem, though his female counterpart has not yet been cast. Both\u00a0<em>The Mummy\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Bride of Frankenstein\u00a0<\/em>will feature a new Dark Universe logo.
