Check out EW\u2019s June 16-18 box office predictions below.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1 \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anrdoezrs.net\/links\/8147292\/type\/dlg\/sid\/EWMovCars3JD\/http:\/\/www.fandango.com\/cars32017_185804\/movieoverview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Cars 3<\/em><\/a> \u2013 $58 million<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s face it:\u00a0<em>Cars<\/em>, while far from being on its last legs as a franchise, doesn\u2019t carry the same box office girth as its Disney\/Pixar brethren, and it lacks the glowing critical reviews of fellow Pixar releases like <em>Finding Nemo<\/em>, <em>The Incredibles<\/em>, and <em>Inside Out<\/em>. With each of its iterations bowing in the summer, <em>Cars<\/em> is basically Pixar\u2019s answer to the traditional seasonal spectacle, often landing a little lighter on the quality side, but consistently delivering easily digestible, harmless family-friendly entertainment.<\/p>\n<div id=\"universal-ad-1\" class=\"univ-ad ad-universal__content ad-lazy-load-on-viewable people--ad-center_horizontal ad-processed\" data-ad-pos=\"1\"><\/div>\n<p>What <em>Cars<\/em> does have on its side as it races into 4,256 theaters this Friday, however, is a lack of competition. The last major animated title to open wide in North America was Fox\u2019s <em>Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie<\/em>, which made a so-so $23.9 million at the start of June, but other than that, families are hungry for a hit aimed squarely at them, and by all accounts (reviews aren\u2019t awful thus far), <em>Cars 3<\/em> delivers.<\/p>\n<p>Still, now 11 years after the first film sped to $244 million total in the U.S. and Canada, franchise fatigue is likely setting in on <em>Cars<\/em> and company. The third film\u2019s forerunners didn\u2019t exactly break box office records, either, finishing their respective release windows between $60 million and $66 million. That puts <em>Cars 3<\/em> on track to gross approximately $56-$60 million through Sunday.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Cars 3 - Official US Trailer\" width=\"1170\" height=\"658\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2LeOH9AGJQM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>2 \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anrdoezrs.net\/links\/8147292\/type\/dlg\/sid\/EWMOVWonderWomanMM\/http:\/\/www.fandango.com\/wonderwoman_191725\/movieoverview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Wonder Woman<\/em><\/a> \u2013 $35 million<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After dipping an unprecedented 43 percent after its record-breaking $103 million opening weekend at the top of the month, <em>Wonder Woman\u00a0<\/em>is poised to charge onward, shedding as little ticket buyers as possible in the process. Superhero tentpoles tend to drop big across their sophomore outing (<em>Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice<\/em> lost 69 percent of its first weekend audience, while <em>Suicide Squad<\/em> similarly saw 67 percent of moviegoers jumping ship in its second week) and level off for round three. With superb word of mouth fueling the film\u2019s already impressive grosses ($453 million worldwide and counting), expect <em>Wonder Woman<\/em> to continue its light descent down the domestic chart to the tune of $30-$35 million in the days ahead.<\/p>\n<div id=\"universal-ad-2\" class=\"univ-ad ad-universal__content ads-teads people--ad-center_horizontal ad-processed\" data-ad-pos=\"1\" data-ad-template=\"5x5\"><\/div>\n<p><strong>3 \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anrdoezrs.net\/links\/8147292\/type\/dlg\/sid\/EWMOVAllEyezOnMeJD\/http:\/\/www.fandango.com\/alleyezonme_193741\/movieoverview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>All Eyez On Me<\/em><\/a> \u2013 $22 million<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Though he died in 1996, Tupac Shakur remains one of the music industry\u2019s most influential and respected figures, having sold over 75 million records worldwide. Now, the long-gestating movie chronicling his life \u2014 directed by Benny Boom and starring Demetrius Shipp Jr. in the lead role \u2014 is finally hitting 2,450 theaters this weekend, and fans are likely to make the film a hit in his honor.<\/p>\n<p>His life and impact are still felt throughout the music industry, and it\u2019s probable that the same audiences that catapulted Universal\u2019s N.W.A. biopic\u00a0<em>Straight Outta Compton<\/em> to a staggering $60.2 million opening in 2015 will similarly turn out to support<em> All Eyez On Me,\u00a0<\/em>which is named after Shakur\u2019s 1996 studio album of the same name.\u00a0Whether the film\u2019s numbers will soar as high as <em>Compton<\/em>\u2018s remains to be seen, though it\u2019s unlikely, given that, according to <a href=\"http:\/\/pro.boxoffice.com\/weekend-forecast-cars3-all-eyez-on-me-rough-night-47-meters-down-wonder-woman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Box Office Pro<\/a>, the film\u2019s social media stats currently trail those of Tate Taylor\u2019s 2014 James Brown drama <em>Get on Up<\/em>, which posted $13.5 million over its opening weekend three years ago. Look for <em>Eyez<\/em> to bag anything from $15 million to $22 million over the three-day stretch.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"All Eyez on Me Movie Clip - Recording California Love (2017) | Movieclips Coming Soon\" width=\"1170\" height=\"658\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1GtYoV4hGE8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>4 \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anrdoezrs.net\/links\/8147292\/type\/dlg\/sid\/EWMovRoughNightJD\/http:\/\/www.fandango.com\/roughnight_200545\/movieoverview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Rough Night<\/em><\/a> \u2013 $21 million<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"universal-ad-3\" class=\"univ-ad ad-universal__content people--ad-center_horizontal ad-processed\" data-ad-pos=\"2\"><\/div>\n<p>There couldn\u2019t be a more fitting time for a female-fronted (and directed, mind you, as <em>Broad City<\/em>\u2018s Lucia Aniello takes the reins here), R-rated comedy to debut on domestic screens. Releasing on the heels of the astonishing success of Patty Jenkins\u2019 <em>Wonder Woman \u2014<\/em>\u00a0the first picture directed by a woman to gross over $100 million across its first three days in release \u2014 American audiences are in the mood for another shot of girl power, and <em>Rough Night\u00a0<\/em>has assembled one of the most enticing casts (from Scarlett Johansson, Jillian Bell, and Ilana Glazer to Kate McKinnon, Demi Moore, and Zoe Kravitz) at the center of a mainstream comedy in recent memory. The film\u2019s growing social media presence indicates an opening larger than Amy Schumer\u2019s <em>Snatched<\/em>, which bowed to $19.5 million in May, but that number could balloon higher, as this year a major, adult-oriented comedy has yet to take hold of the market, meaning <em>Rough Night\u00a0<\/em>could quench the industry\u2019s thirst for a comedy hit to the tune of $20-$25 million.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5 \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anrdoezrs.net\/links\/8147292\/type\/dlg\/sid\/EWMovMummyJD\/http:\/\/www.fandango.com\/themummy2017_197714\/movieoverview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>The Mummy<\/em><\/a> \u2013 $14 million<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Universal\u2019s first foray into its planned Dark Universe \u2014 slated to come together through films about classic horror figures like the Invisible Man, Dr. Jekyll, and Frankenstein\u2019s Monster \u2014 underwhelmed across its first weekend on North American screens with a middling $31 million. The film did manage to earn star Tom Cruise\u2019s best worldwide opening of all time, however, raking in a healthy $172.4 million total from all global territories. With a $125 million budget, the film\u2019s international performance is its saving grace, with U.S. numbers most likely topping out at around $80 million by the end of the film\u2019s run. As it heads into its second weekend in wide release, the film is on track to lose at least 50 percent of its debut audience, finishing the period ahead with anywhere between $12 million to $15 million.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"47 Meters Down Trailer #1 (2017) Mandy Moore Horror Movie HD\" width=\"1170\" height=\"658\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ddYSGGJAKOk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Outside the top five, the Mandy Moore\/Claire Holt shark thriller <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anrdoezrs.net\/links\/8147292\/type\/dlg\/sid\/EWMOV47MetersDownJD\/http:\/\/www.fandango.com\/47metersdown_200223\/movieoverview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>47 Meters Down<\/em><\/a>should drum up solid business from the teenage crowd. Releasing almost exactly one year after Blake Lively led the similarly-themed creature feature <em>The Shallows,\u00a0<\/em>this film enters theaters with a relatively untested distributor, Entertainment Studios, behind it, though the film\u2019s robust marketing push has visibility high.\u00a0With better-than-expected reviews, Moore\u2019s in-demand screen presence (<em>This Is Us<\/em> is one of the most popular shows on television at the moment), and seasonal tastes (genre films tend to perform better in the summer and winter) working in its favor, all signs point to <em>47 Meters Down<\/em> posting a decent number in the $7-$12 million range at roughly 2,300 theaters this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Also opening at around 575 locations this weekend is Focus\u2019 Colin Trevorrow-directed drama <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anrdoezrs.net\/links\/8147292\/type\/dlg\/sid\/EWMovBookOfHenryJD\/http:\/\/www.fandango.com\/thebookofhenry_187441\/movieoverview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>The Book of Henry<\/em><\/a>, which stars Naomi Watts as the mother of two young boys (Jaeden Lieberher, Jacob Tremblay) who seek to save their friend (Maddie Ziegler) from the abusive clutches of her stepfather (Dean Norris). While the film <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rottentomatoes.com\/m\/the_book_of_henry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">has received largely negative reviews<\/a>, its buzzy premise, sensational theatrical trailer, and appealing cast (Sarah Silverman, Lee Pace, and Bobby Moynihan also star) should be enough for casual audiences to hitch a ride.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Sally Hawkins and Ethan Hawke appear in Aisling Walsh\u2019s Maud Lewis biopic <em>Maudie<\/em>, which traveled the festival circuit to positive critical reaction late last year.
