Kendrick Lamar<\/a>\u00a0and his video for \u201cHumble\u201d led the way with eight nominations today as the\u00a0MTV\u00a0Video Music Awards<\/em>\u00a0noms were announced.\u00a0Katy Perry<\/a>\u00a0and The Weeknd landed five noms apiece for the show, which will air live August 27 from the Forum in Inglewood, CA. Like\u00a0MTV\u2019s earlier Movie & TV Awards<\/a>, the network has combined categories to remove gender designations, with the former Best Female Video and Best Male Video categories combined to become Artist of the Year.<\/p>\n

Lamar\u2019s eight noms included the marquee Video of the Year and Artist of the Year categories. The latter group also includes Bruno Mars, recent\u00a0Game Of Thrones<\/em>\u00a0actor Ed Sheeran, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd and Lorde. Fans vote will decide eight of the VMAs\u2019 15 categories, with the Artist of the Year voting live through the pre-show.<\/p>\n
