A suggestion by Barclays that \u2018only\u2019\u00a0one in five<\/a>\u00a0iPhone owners will be willing to pay the rumored $1000+ price of the\u00a0iPhone 8<\/a>\u00a0has been countered by survey results showing the loyalty people feel to the Apple brand and ecosystem.<\/p>\n

While Barclays feared iPhone owners might defect to Samsung, the survey by\u00a0Fluent<\/a>\u00a0indicates that this isn\u2019t at all likely \u2026<\/p>\n

\u00a0The survey of more than 2,000 U.S. consumers found that only 5% of iPhone owners expected to buy a Samsung next time.<\/div>\n

It also showed that iPhone owners have the highest loyalty of any smartphone brand, 79% intending to buy another iPhone model as their next phone. This contrasted with 31% loyalty for a typical Android brand, with Samsung topping out at 63%.<\/p>\n

Fluent also found that actual purchasing behavior matched future intentions.<\/p>\n

According to Fluent\u2019s\u00a0data, 34% of Americans have an iPhone and most currently own the latest models \u2013 an iPhone 6 or iPhone 7. Once consumers purchase an iPhone they tend to stay with the brand, with nearly half of iPhone users (47%) have owned at least four iPhones in their lifetime.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

When it comes to the iPhone 8 specifically, while Barclays estimated that 18% of iPhone owners would buy the flagship phone, Fluent said 40% of them were planning to do so.<\/p>\n

While two-thirds did agree with a statement that $1000 was too expensive, 70% of them said that they wouldn\u2019t even consider an alternative brand.<\/p>\n

Readers have also been\u00a0poking holes<\/a>\u00a0in the Barclays prediction.<\/p>\n

Most people don\u2019t see it as spending $1000+ [\u2026] it\u2019s all 0% monthly payments to them from carriers.<\/em><\/p>\n

How many will pay $1200 for a 256GB Note 8? More than those willing to pay $1000 for an iPhone 8?<\/em><\/p>\n

In California the iPhone with most memory, already exceeds $1k. Plus the resale market for iPhones is strong. I upgrade every year and typically sell last year\u2019s iPhone for $700 so the new ends up costing me about $350.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It was reported yesterday that the iPhone 8 may be offered in\u00a064\/256\/512GB options<\/a>, with a reader poll suggesting that\u00a0around a quarter<\/a>\u00a0of our readers would probably or definitely opt for the top tier.<\/p>\n
