{"id":71158,"date":"2017-11-22T02:08:43","date_gmt":"2017-11-22T00:08:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ngradio.gr\/?p=71158\/"},"modified":"2017-11-22T02:08:43","modified_gmt":"2017-11-22T00:08:43","slug":"justice-league-cinematographer-hopes-directors-cut","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ngradio.gr\/en\/news-el\/entertainment\/justice-league-cinematographer-hopes-directors-cut\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Justice League&#8217; Cinematographer Hopes for a Director&#8217;s Cut"},"content":{"rendered":"<aside class=\"blog-post-deck\">\n<div class=\"blog-post-summary\">Fabian Wagner was unable to participate in Joss Whedon&#8217;s reshoots, but is a fan of Zack Snyder&#8217;s extended additions: &#8220;They are long, but he takes his time to tell the story.&#8221;<\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<article class=\"blog-post-body js-fitvids-content\">Fabian Wagner knows how to help build worlds.Some of the cinematographer&#8217;s most celebrated work has been on HBO&#8217;s\u00a0<em>Game of Thrones<\/em>, where he&#8217;s shot such ambitious episodes as season five&#8217;s &#8220;Hardhome&#8221; and season six&#8217;s &#8220;Battle of the Bastards.&#8221; So when Zack Snyder asked him to help shape\u00a0<em>Justice League<\/em>, it was a natural evolution of his career, with him stepping into a project even bigger in scale than his ambitious episodes of\u00a0<em>Thrones<\/em>.He worked closely with director Zack Snyder, who is known for his epic-length director&#8217;s cuts for films such as\u00a0<em>Watchmen<\/em>\u00a0(Wagner&#8217;s favorite)<em>\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Batman v. Superman: Dawn of ustice<\/em>. At just two hours long,\u00a0<em>Justice League<\/em>\u00a0was shorter than many had imagined, and the complicated nature of the film&#8217;s production raises question about the viability of a director&#8217;s cut ever being released. Snyder exited the project in May following a family tragedy and Joss\u00a0Whedon\u00a0stepped in to oversee\u00a0reshoots\u00a0and post-production. Even so, Wagner would like to see a director&#8217;s cut come to light.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This one was even shorter than I expected, so there are scenes that aren&#8217;t in there. I really hope we get to see a director&#8217;s cut, which will give us everything that we shot that didn&#8217;t make it in,&#8221; says Wagner. &#8220;What I love about his [Snyder&#8217;s] director&#8217;s cuts is they are long, but he takes his time to tell the story. I&#8217;ve never watched any of his directors cut and thought &#8216;This is long.&#8221; Whether they are three hours long, or three hours and ten minutes, they always seemed to go quick.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Wagner was unable to participate in the\u00a0reshoots\u00a0due to scheduling issues, so 2nd\u00a0unit photographer Jean-Philippe\u00a0Gossart\u00a0took over as cinematographer for\u00a0Whedon&#8217;s shoot. There&#8217;s been much speculation\u00a0 about what took place during\u00a0reshoots\u00a0and how the film may have changed under\u00a0Whedon&#8217;s\u00a0direction, but for Wagner, it was a comfort knowing\u00a0Gossart\u00a0would continue the visual style his team set.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He and I had been talking about what we&#8217;ve been doing, and he knew some of the style we&#8217;ve been going for,&#8221; says Wagner. &#8220;It was great to have someone I know and who knew the film beforehand and could come in and give it continuity.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"embedded-content embedded-content--image is-embed-initialized\" data-template=\"image\" data-nodetype=\"image\" data-id=\"[NODEID]\">\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"embedded-image__image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/sites\/default\/files\/2017\/11\/batman-embed_2017.jpg\" \/><figcaption class=\"embedded-image__details-text\">\n<div class=\"media__credit\">\n<p>Courtesy of Warner Brothers<\/p>\n<p>Among Wagner&#8217;s favorite shots that didn&#8217;t make it into the film was included in a March teaser showing Batman atop a building.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There were so many days I came on set and I thought, &#8216;Wow, I can&#8217;t believe I&#8217;m shooting Batman, or shooting Superman.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>But he&#8217;s receiving perhaps the most praise for the way he shot The Flash (Ezra Miller), who is poised to star in his own\u00a0<em>Flashpoint\u00a0<\/em>movie. Wagner says Snyder and visual effects supervisor John &#8216;D.J.&#8217; Des Jardin had a lot of ideas for how to show the hero&#8217;s kinetic powers.<\/div>\n<p>&#8220;Both Zack and D.J. said to me that they want me to do a lot of interactive lighting, and create some sort of visual language that we could use to portray Flash&#8217;s speed,&#8221; says Wagner.<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s currently working on the final season of\u00a0<em>Game of Thrones<\/em>, which is occupying his time for the\u00a0foreseeable future. No date or director has been set for a\u00a0<em>Flashpoint\u00a0<\/em>film, though Wagner says he&#8217;d hope to be asked back for a future DC film.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I really loved the characters, and I loved the tone of it,&#8221;
