Avengers: Infinity War<\/em><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0big bad Thanos was named the most anticipated movie villain of 2018 in an online poll. Josh Brolin plays the Marvel comics supervillain, called the\u00a0\u201cbiggest and baddest<\/em>\u201d of MCU bad guys<\/a>\u00a0by Kevin Feige. Even the combined strength\u00a0of the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy may not be enough\u00a0to stop Thanos when he gets his hands on\u00a0the all-powerful Infinity Gauntlet<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Past MCU villains have not exactly fired up Marvel\u00a0fans, to put it mildly. People do love Tom Hiddleston\u2019s Loki, who will indeed return for\u00a0Infinity War\u00a0<\/em>to team with Thanos<\/a>. But beyond Loki, most MCU baddies have fallen\u00a0into the \u201cvillain of the week<\/em>\u201d category. This mostly anonymous parade of antagonists has, in some people\u2019s minds, diminished the dramatic effect of many MCU entries.<\/p>\n

Fans apparently are confident the MCU villain curse won\u2019t continue.\u00a0Fandango<\/em>\u00a0polled 8,000 moviegoers about their most anticipated villain of 2018\u00a0and\u00a0Infinity War<\/em>\u2018s Thanos came out on top.\u00a0The MCU actually pulled off a double-dip in the poll, with Michael B. Jordan\u2019s\u00a0Black Panther<\/em><\/a>\u00a0villain Killmonger coming in at #3. Jordan spoke recently about the \u201cdark place<\/em>\u201d\u00a0he went to as an actor<\/a>\u00a0in order to embody Killmonger.<\/p>\n

Perhaps surprisingly, the #2 spot in Fandango\u2019s poll goes to\u00a0Grindelwald, played by Johnny Depp in\u00a0Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald<\/em><\/a>. Controversy erupted over Depp\u2019s casting in the\u00a0Fantastic Beasts\u00a0<\/em>sequel, causing J.K. Rowling\u00a0to come to the actor\u2019s defense<\/a>. Though some may oppose Depp\u2019s appearance, many fans are clearly looking forward to his villainous turn.<\/p>\n

The #4 spot on the list interestingly went to Jessica Chastain\u2019s character in\u00a0X-Men: Dark Phoenix<\/em><\/a>. Chastain\u2019s character details haven\u2019t\u00a0been revealed yet beyond the fact that she\u2019s an \u201cotherworldly shapeshifter<\/em>,\u201d though a\u00a0first image of her was recently released<\/a>.\u00a0Fans clearly love the idea of Chastain, known for her complex portrayals in serious dramas, diving into the comic book end of the pool and cutting loose as a bad guy. Rounding out the top 5 is the iconic Michael Myers, who returns for\u00a0Halloween (2018)<\/em><\/a>. Original\u00a0Michael Myers Nick Castle<\/a>\u00a0comes back\u00a0to play the character, which no doubt\u00a0only increases\u00a0fans\u2019 anticipation.<\/p>\n

If the fans who voted in\u00a0Fandango<\/em>\u2018s poll are correct, 2018 will be the year the MCU finally cracks the code when it comes to creating a memorable villain.\u00a0Avengers: Infinity War<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Black Panther<\/em>\u00a0both look like monster hits in the making.<\/p>\n
