Mark Hamill<\/strong>\u00a0is always down to talk about\u00a0Star Wars<\/em>, and he\u2019s never afraid to voice his opinions on the franchise. In a new interview, Hamill offers some new thoughts on\u00a0The Last Jedi<\/em>, the prospect of seeing Luke in\u00a0Episode 9<\/em>\u00a0, and more.<\/p>\n

Mark Hamill has some more thoughts on\u00a0Star Wars<\/em>, and he\u2019d like you hear them. Speaking with\u00a0Games Radar<\/em><\/a>, Hamill weighed in on\u00a0Star Wars: The Last Jedi<\/em>, the possibility of appearing in future films, and some of that pesky fan backlash. It\u2019s a frank and honest interview, as is the case with most interviews with Hamill.\u00a0Spoilers<\/strong>\u00a0for\u00a0The Last Jedi<\/em>\u00a0follow, so if you\u2019ve somehow avoided seeing the film, be warned.<\/p>\n

Snoke and Fan Backlash<\/strong><\/p>\n

Some\u00a0Star Wars<\/em>\u00a0fans were severely Mad Online about the surprising choices director Rian Johnson made with\u00a0The Last Jedi<\/em>. While I won\u2019t say every single criticism of the film is incorrect, it certainly seemed like the major complaint most fans had amounted to \u201cI expected the film to do one thing, and it did something else instead, and now I don\u2019t know how to react.\u201d<\/p>\n

For his part, Hamill says he understands why some people got upset. \u201cI relate to the fans because I\u2019m a fan myself,\u201d the actor says. \u201cI understand that they have a deep investment, a sense of ownership, because I do too and the problem is, you just can\u2019t please everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

That said, Hamill does think anyone who get upset by the sudden, shocking death of Snoke is just being silly:<\/p>\n

\u201cI was surprised everyone was so upset that they got rid of Snoke. From Rian\u2019s point of view, it was a big favourite for [Episode] 9 because he\u2019s not important. It clears the deck to have the conflict between Kylo and Rey without him getting in the way and having to explain if he\u2019s a clone or if he\u2019s related to Palpatine\u2026all that stuff\u201d.<\/p>\n

Broom Boy: The Saga Continues\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Last Jedi<\/em>\u00a0ends with a powerful moment in which a kid working on the stables on Canto Bight looks to the stars, his broom clutched in his hand like a lightsaber. This character, who has earned the goofy nickname of Broom Boy, is Rian Johnson\u2019s way of signifying the\u00a0Star Wars<\/em>\u00a0story is bigger than just the characters we\u2019ve grown used to. It\u2019s spread throughout the galaxy, inspiring countless people we may never even meet.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

Some people don\u2019t like the Broom Boy ending (what a surprise!), but Hamill is on board with it:<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat I love particularly was \u2013 and they didn\u2019t have to do this because the movie\u2019s over \u2013 all of a sudden you cut to the stable and there\u2019s that little boy, he puts out his hand and the broom comes to him\u2026It\u2019s so subtle, the first time I saw it I thought he just took it, but if you look he puts his hand out and it moves over for him, implying that yeah, she\u2019s [Rey\u2019s] the last Jedi\u2026until the next Jedi. It\u2019ll go on forever, believe me. Long after both of us are gone they\u2019ll be making these films from here into eternity.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He\u2019s right, folks.<\/p>\n

Luke In Episode 9<\/strong><\/p>\n

Luke dies at the end of\u00a0The Last Jedi<\/em>, but anyone who happens to be Force sensitive in the\u00a0Star Wars<\/em>\u00a0franchise is never truly dead. There\u2019s always the option of returning as a Force Ghost. So will that happen with Luke in\u00a0Star Wars: Episode 9<\/em>? Hamill says he \u201chasn\u2019t really thought about it\u201d, primarily because he feels like Luke\u2019s story had a great sense of closure in\u00a0The Last Jedi.\u00a0<\/em>Hamill also adds the the prospect of returning isn\u2019t very appealing since there\u2019s not really a chance of him acting alongside Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher again in a\u00a0Star Wars<\/em>\u00a0sequel:<\/p>\n

\u201cI haven\u2019t really thought about it because there\u2019s such a sense of closure, Luke\u2019s story is told. What more can I do? And you know, you have to start disconnecting from it emotionally\u2026The main thing [that shocked me in Star Wars: The Force Awakens] was \u2013 Han Solo is killed! I\u2019ll never get to work with Harrison again. Luke will never see Han again. That\u2019s what struck me, that was the first break, we lost a member of the band. And then what happened with Luke [in The Last Jedi], I said \u2018Ok, that\u2019s the next link\u2019 when I was still thinking I\u2019ll come back as a Force ghost. And then to lose Carrie in real life, I said \u2018That\u2019s it\u2019. They say you can never go home again, and that for me was the real indication that it\u2019s time to move on.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

A part of me feels like Hamill is being coy here \u2013 there\u2019s no way the idea of appearing in\u00a0Episode 9<\/em>\u00a0hasn\u2019t crossed his mind once or twice. That said, I somewhat agree with him that Luke\u2019s story did have closure in\u00a0The Last Jedi<\/em>, and it\u2019s not essential for J.J. Abrams to bring the character back for\u00a0Episode 9<\/em>.<\/p>\n
