FOREIGNER<\/b>\u00a0bassist\u00a0Jeff Pilson<\/b>\u00a0recently spoke with the\u00a0OC Weekly<\/a>\u00a0about what he described as the band’s recent “upward trajectory.”<\/p>\n

“There’s a lot of little contributors,” he said. “We had songs on\u00a0‘American Idol’<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0‘Glee’<\/b>, so there’s a bit of that \u2014 not to the degree like\u00a0JOURNEY<\/b>\u00a0had [in\u00a0‘The Sopranos’<\/b>], but little [impressions] which helped with current relevance. But I think most of it just comes down to hard work, especially the last 13 years since [vocalist]\u00a0Kelly<\/b>‘s [Hansen<\/b>] been in the band.<\/p>\n

“I give a lot of the credit to\u00a0Kelly<\/b>, because we have a front man who delivers every night,” he continued. “We’re [also] a kick-ass band; we’re fun to watch; and we have great material courtesy of\u00a0Mick Jones<\/b>‘s brilliant songwriting. We have all the right elements, and we’ve worked really hard to get the word out. We built it the good old fashioned way \u2014 we went out there and played.”<\/p>\n

Pilson<\/b>\u00a0also discussed his role as the group’s musical director. “For\u00a0FOREIGNER<\/b>, being musical director is a pretty easy job because everybody in the band is great,” he said. “I certainly don’t have to be over everybody’s shoulders. Basically, I just have to make sure that the live performance is up to snuff, and that everybody’s doing the right thing.”<\/p>\n

Additionally,\u00a0Pilson<\/b>\u00a0reconfirmed that\u00a0FOREIGNER<\/b>\u00a0has no plans to record a follow-up to their 2009 studio album,\u00a0“Can’t Slow Down”<\/b>, any time soon. “[It’s] a reaction to what’s going on in the music business right now,” he said. “There’s just not a lot of momentum for full-length CDs of new material for anybody. Maybe\u00a0Beyonc\u00e9<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0Kanye West<\/b>, but it’s a different game out there right now. It really is a singles world again.”<\/p>\n

Still, he said the band will continue writing, recording and releasing new songs periodically. “There’s a creative side that needs to keep involved in new things,” he said. “You need to do that as an artist, but we don’t have any problem recognizing the fact that the old material brought people [to our shows]. It is what it is. I think we’re responding in a way that keeps us as artistically vital as we can be, but at the same time, makes the best of the situation we’re in.”<\/p>\n

Pilson<\/b>\u00a0also commented on\u00a0FOREIGNER<\/b>‘s upcoming concert in Sturgis, South Dakota, where the band’s current seven-piece lineup will perform alongside five former members. He said the group has “long since transcended” any drama from the past. “We’re lucky because everybody’s a grown-up, and whatever baggage [that] caused them to break up a million years ago is long since over. It’s great that the fans get to see it, and we enjoy it, so why not?”<\/p>\n

FOREIGNER<\/b>‘s\u00a0“Juke Box Heroes”<\/b>\u00a0tour with\u00a0WHITESNAKE<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0JASON BONHAM’S LED ZEPPELIN EVENING<\/b>\u00a0wraps up at FivePoint Amphitheatre in Irvine, California on August 1. Three days later, the group will perform a special “reunion show” in Sturgis, South Dakota, which will feature guest appearances by former members\u00a0Dennis Elliot<\/b>\u00a0(drums, 1976-1992),\u00a0Al Greenwood<\/b>\u00a0(keyboards, 1976-1980),\u00a0Rick Wills<\/b>\u00a0(bass, 1979-1991),\u00a0Ian MacDonald<\/b>(guitar\/vocals, 1976-1980) and\u00a0Lou Gramm<\/b>\u00a0(vocals, 1976-1990 and 1992-2003).<\/p>\n
