If\u00a0Bradley Cooper<\/a>\u00a0had his way during pre-production meetings for his smash-hit directorial debut,\u00a0A Star Is Born<\/em><\/a>, the final product could have had a very different feel. In a new\u00a0Variety<\/em><\/a>\u00a0feature focused on\u00a0Lady Gaga<\/a>\u2019s revelatory leading role in the film, the director revealed that he initially had a different player in mind for the role of Jackson Maine early in the process, before Gaga was cast as Ally:\u00a0none other than\u00a0Jack White<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI saw this other person that I wanted to do this, who is an actual musician,\u201d he told the magazine. \u201cBut [the studio] wouldn\u2019t make the movie with him.\u201d While Cooper didn\u2019t divulge the name,\u00a0Variety<\/em>\u00a0notes a source claiming that the former White Stripe\u00a0was the musician in question for the role.<\/p>\n \u201cAnytime a big pop star broke, we would talk about it,\u201d the film\u2019s producer Bill Gerber said of discussions around the remake. \u201cHey, should we do\u00a0A Star Is Born<\/em>\u00a0with Lauryn Hill or Aaliyah? Whitney Houston had been talked about way back when.\u201d Previous proposals for the current iteration of the film had\u00a0Clint Eastwood<\/a>\u00a0in the director\u2019s chair with Cooper and\u00a0Beyonc\u00e9<\/a>\u00a0in the roles of Jackson and Ally, respectively, before those discussions broke down in 2014 and Cooper found himself in the role of director.<\/p>\n Had Cooper\u2019s early wishes come true, White\u2019s on-screen acting role wouldn\u2019t have been his first. The guitarist has made several cameos in TV and film throughout his career, most notably in the role of an incoherent and karate chop-throwing Elvis Presley in 2007\u2019s\u00a0Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story<\/em>.\u00a0Check out a clip below for a glimpse of what could have been.<\/p>\n
