As Deadline exclusively reported back in November, CBS All Access has put a Star Trek Discovery spinoff into development with the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon actor.<\/p>\n

Set to return for the January 17-launching second season of the Sonequa Martin-Green led\u00a0Discovery<\/em>\u00a0as Captain Philippa Georgiou, the Yeoh series is in the very early stages, I hear. At present, with Yeoh likely planned to also be a part of future\u00a0Discovery<\/em>\u00a0seasons, the new Trekverse addition from co-EPs Bo Yeon Kim and Erika Lippoldt is shaping up to be an ensemble<\/p>\n

\u201cMichelle has shattered ceilings, broken boundaries, and astonished us with her grace and gravitas for decades,\u201d\u00a0Star Trek<\/em>\u00a0EP and expansion overlord Alex Kurtzman said in a statement today.\u201dAs a human, I adore her. As an actor, I revere her,\u201d he added. \u201cErika and Boey are remarkable, exciting writers who bring a fresh perspective to the world of\u00a0Star Trek<\/em>, and we\u2019re all thrilled to explore the next wild chapter in the life of Captain Philippa Georgiou.\u201d<\/p>\n

The latest spinoff is set to focus on a continuation of Yeoh\u2019s\u00a0Discovery<\/em>\u00a0Season 2 adventures in Starfleet\u2019s Section 31 division. The semi-secret and autonomous organization has been a part of\u00a0Trek<\/em>\u00a0lore since it was first introduced in the 1990s on the\u00a0Star Trek: Deep Space Nine<\/em>\u00a0series.<\/p>\n

The Artists International Group-repped Yeoh herself made no secret that she was in the stratosphere about the official announcement Monday of the CBS Television Studios, Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment produced series.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m so excited to continue telling these rich \u2018Star Trek\u2019 stories,\u201d the actor said. \u201cBeing a part of this Universe and this character specifically has been such a joy for me to play. I can\u2019t wait to see where it all goes \u2013 certainly I believe it will go \u2018where no WOMAN has ever gone before!’\u201d<\/p>\n

As well as the Yeoh spinoff, CBS All Access has the Patrick Stewart-led Picard series on deck. There\u2019s also the\u00a0October 2017 announced<\/a>\u00a0half-hour adult animated comedy series\u00a0Star Trek: Below Deck<\/em>s and the already aired\u00a0Star Trek: Short Treks<\/em>. \u201cMy goal is that there should be a Star Trek something on all the time on All Access,\u201dCBS TV Studios boss David Stapf told Deadline\u00a0in August last year.<\/a><\/p>\n

Looks like that mission is on point to succeed.<\/p>\n
