Netflix<\/a>\u00a0took to Twitter to make an indirect response to\u00a0Steven Spielberg<\/a>\u2019s crusade to block Netflix as a future contender during the Oscars.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The streaming giant didn\u2019t name Spielberg directly in its tweet, but considering his views on Netflix films and the Academy Awards, it seems like the statement is associated with the director\u2019s thoughts about their participation as contenders in award season.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe love cinema,\u201d the official Netflix Twitter account wrote. They continue with a list of things they loved including:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Access for people who can\u2019t always afford, or live in towns without, theaters<\/li>\n
  • Letting everyone, everywhere enjoy releases at the same time<\/li>\n
  • Giving filmmakers more ways to share art<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    \u201cThese things are not mutually exclusive,\u201d they concluded in a tweet that could be considered a clap back at the filmmaker.<\/p>\n

    Spielberg, a current governor of the Academy\u2019s directors branch, plans to\u00a0propose changes to\u00a0Oscars\u00a0eligibility rules<\/a>, arguing films that debut on streaming services or get a short theatrical run should qualify for the\u00a0Emmys instead of the Oscars.<\/p>\n

    The director\u2019s anti-Netflix comments come after Alfonso Cuaron\u2019s\u00a0Roma\u00a0<\/em>won three Oscars for Best Foreign Language Film,\u00a0 Best Achievement in Directing, and Best Achievement in Cinematography.<\/p>\n
