If you look into The\u00a0Beatles\u2019 album sales<\/a>, you find one unbeatable record after another. It all starts with cumulative sales. At 183 million units sold, no recording artist comes close to the Fab Four.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The band also dominated the Billboard charts unlike any other artist selling records in America. Over the years, the band posted\u00a020 No. 1 hit singles<\/a>\u00a0on the Billboard Hot 100. Not even Elvis could match that total.<\/p>\n

\n

That brings us to the band\u2019s long-playing (LP) records on the Billboard 200. Once again, The Beatles hold the record for No. 1 albums (19), and no one is close. (Jay-Z has 13.) The figure becomes more amazing when you consider the\u00a0group only stayed together<\/a>\u00a0for seven years.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In 1964, the Fab Four did something incredible when it sent\u00a0three records to No. 1<\/a>\u00a0on the charts in the same year. Only one other band (The Monkees) has ever managed this feat. But The Beatles did it several times.<\/p>\n

The Beatles\u2019 first 2 Capitol records and \u2018Hard Day\u2019s Night\u2019 topped the charts in 1964.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

When The Beatles landed in America on February 7 1964, music fans across the country instantly responded.\u00a0Meet the Beatles!<\/em>, the group\u2019s debut on Capitol, shot to No. 1 on the charts eight days later and stayed there for 11 weeks.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In fact, it was so popular that it kept\u00a0Introducing \u2026 The Beatles<\/em>\u00a0(on Vee-Jay)\u00a0from topping the charts<\/a>. But the band was only getting warmed up. Its second Capitol release \u2014 imaginatively titled\u00a0The Beatles\u2019 Second Album<\/em>\u00a0\u2014 soared to No. 1 by the start of May.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

By then, fans had tunes like \u201cI Want to Hold Your Hand,\u201d \u201cYou Can\u2019t Do That,\u201d and \u201cI Saw Her Standing There\u201d on record. Two months later,\u00a0A Hard Day\u2019s Night<\/em>\u00a0landed in theaters and the soundtrack landed in record stores.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

By the end of July, it also reached No. 1, and stayed there for over three months. Looking back, The Beatles would have easily had four chart-toppers that year if they\u2019d spaced out the releases.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Another 3 Beatles albums hit No. 1 in 1965 \u2014 and then again in \u201966.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Does it seem possible that The Beatles saw another three albums reach No. 1 in 1965? That also happened. The first,\u00a0Beatles \u201965<\/em>, featuring \u201cI\u2019ll Follow the Sun\u201d and \u201cI Feel Fine,\u201d topped the charts in January and stayed there for a few months.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Next,\u00a0Beatles VI\u00a0<\/em>(\u201cEight Days a Week\u201d) took the Billboard 200\u2019s top spot in July. That held down the fort until another film soundtrack (this time, for\u00a0Help!<\/em>) took over the No. 1 spot in September. If you\u2019re keeping score at home, that made six \u2014 and space for a seventh \u2014 No. 1 hits in two years.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

But the run wasn\u2019t over. In 1966, the Fab Four somehow released another three records that all topped the charts.\u00a0Rubber Soul<\/em>\u00a0(January),\u00a0Yesterday and Today<\/em>\u00a0(July), and\u00a0Revolver<\/em>(September) all claimed the top spot at various points of the year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In other words, the band nearly had 10 No. 1 albums in the space of three years. (They had to settle for nine.) No wonder The Beatles\u00a0didn\u2019t win many Grammy Awards<\/a>; they likely overwhelmed the voters by 1965.<\/p>\n
