Background

The big screen adventure first hit screens in 1996, but where are the cast now?

The big screen adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic Matilda captured the minds of a generation of children when it was released in 1996.

20 years on and not only has it earned $62.1million worldwide, but has also spawned a successful stage show.

But after two decades, where are the stars of the enchanting children’s classic now?

Mara Wilson as Matilda

Matilda

Main actress Mara Wilson, who played Matilda, has grown up a whole lot since triumphing on screen.

The actress, who also starred in Mrs Doubtfire and Miracle on 34th Street, turned 28 last year – but is still instantly recognisable with her dark hair, short fringe and pretty features.

The child star has largely shunned the limelight and stepped away from her career in acting – but is now developing a career in storytelling.

Danny DeVito as Harry Wormwood

Harry Wormwood

Danny was already a full-blown Hollywood legend when he starred – and directed – Matilda in 1996 and has gone on to find further success after the movie. As well as a turn on Friends as a stripper in starred in Erin Brockovich, L.A. Confidential and has found success on the small screen with It’s Always Sunny In Philedalphia.

Rhea Perlman as Zinnia Wormwood

Zinnia Wormwood

Danny’s wife on and off-screen, Rhea is best known for her role as Caral on Cheers and since Matilda has maintained her stars on TV, appearing in Ally McBeal, Fraiser, Law & Order and more recently The Mindy Project. Aside from acting she’s become a successful children’s author, writing six illustrated books in the Otto Undercover series.

Pam Ferris as Agatha Trunchbull

Agatha Trunchbull

The British favourite scared a whole new generation of children in Harry Potter where she took on the role of the odious Aunt Marge.

She’s currently on screen in BBC favourite Call The Midwife, where she’s played Sister Evangelina since 2012 – a much more likeable character.

Embeth Davidtz as Miss Honey

Miss Honey

Embeth Davidtz is almost certainly best known for playing timid and kind teacher Miss Honey in 1996 film Matilda.

She previously starred in Schindler’s List before her rise to fame in the film, as well as a role in Deadly Matrimony.

She has also gone on to have roles in everything from Mansfield Park to Junebug, Bicentennial Man and Fracture, as well as TV series Mad Men.

Jimmy Karz as Bruce Bogtrotter

Bruce Bogtrotter

Cake-eater Bruce Bogtrotter, played by Jimmy Karz, became a hero for many when he went up against Miss Trunchbull in the 1996 children’s classic.

These days he’s looking very different – in fact, he’s transformed into a bit of a hunk.

Recent pictures of Jimmy show that he’s scrubbed up since that messy chocolate challenge and ditched that questionable hairdo.

The actor, who’s now 31, has also shed his baby weight and grown some stylish facial hair.

Brian Levinson as Michael Wormwood

Like Mara, despite a bright start Brian chose not to carry on acting as an adult and made his last screen appearance on Seinfeld in 1997. He’s managed to stay out the spotlight, though clearly still has huge love for the movie attending a Matilda reunion in 2013 with the rest of his co-stars.

Kiami Davael as Lavender

Lavender

Matilda’s BFF has like Mara and Brian moved away from the cameras. Appearing on a few episodes of LL Cool J’s In The House in the 2000s, Kiami swapped acting for school and headed to the University of Kentucky where she graduated in 2008.

Don’t worry though, Kiami and Mara still hang out and last year shared this selfie.

Still BFFs
