Oprah Winfrey and Rose Byrne search for the truth in the first trailer for HBO’s upcoming television movie, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.
Based on the book of the same name, the film depicts the true story of Henrietta Lacks whose cells were used without permission to create the first immortal human cell line which led to unprecedented breakthroughs that changed the face of medicine.
The clip, released Wednesday, follows Lacks’ daughter Deborah (Winfrey) as she learns of what happened to her mother alongside journalist Rebecca Skloot (Byrne) who writes the book on their findings.
“Hope I don’t regret this,” Winfrey says after she agrees to Byrne writing the book.
“Science took her cells. Her family reclaimed her story,” notes HBO in the synopsis.
Written and directed by George C. Wolfe, the film also stars Renee Elise Goldsberry, Rocky Carroll, Kyanna Simone Simpson, Courtney B. Vance, Leslie Uggams, Reg E. Cathey, Reed Birney, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, John Douglas Thompson, Adriane Lenox, Roger Robinson and Melvin Van Peebles.
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks is set to premiere on HBO April 22.
