The Transformers topped Beetlejuice.
On its first day in theaters, “Transformers One” wowed moviegoers, raking in $9.56 million in ticket sales, according to The Numbers.
The animated sci-fi action flick features A-Listers Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johansson voicing its characters, which are based on the Hasbro toy line.
The film, which the Associated Press called, “an origin story no one wants,” is expected to enjoy a $26 million opening weekend, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
It managed to dethrone “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” after the cult classic sequel spent two weeks at No. 1.
This Friday, the Tim Burton film came in second at the box office, with sales of $6.6 million. It is expected to earn $25 million this weekend, according to ScreenRant.
In its second Friday in theaters, “Speak No Evil” landed in the third spot, with a $1.74 million-dollar take.
The movie is projected to earn $21 million this weekend, according to Variety.
The survival horror thriller “Never Let Go” took fourth place on its first day in theaters, with sales of $1.6 million.
The film, which The Wrap says “grasps at straws,” is centered around a mother trying to protect her twin sons in a post-apocalyptic world.
The matriarch is played by Halle Berry, who The Guardian says “is, as ever, a strong anchor but by the time the credits roll, we’re ready to let go.”
