Hollywood Reporter’s Guide to the 2017 Oscars: What to Know About Sunday’s Show

Jimmy Kimmel will host the 89th Annual Academy Awards, airing live Sunday on ABC.

The year’s biggest films will be honored at the 89th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. The live show begins at 5:30 p.m. PT. on ABC, following the red carpet preshow, which starts at 4 p.m. PT.

Jimmy Kimmel will take the stage to host the ceremony. Although he’s hosted several other awards shows, including last year’s Emmys, this is his first time hosting the Academy Awards.

This year, all five songs that are nominated for best original song will be performed.

Justin Timberlake will take the stage to perform his hit “Can’t Stop the Feeling” from the movie Trolls. This is Timberlake’s first time performing at the Oscars and his first nomination.

Representing the movie La La Land, John Legend will sing the songs “Audition (The Fools Who Dream)” and “City of Stars.” This is Legend’s second performance at the show as he sang his Oscar-winning song, “Glory,” from Selma, in 2015.

Lin-Manuel Miranda and Auli’I Cravalho will sing “How Far I’ll Go,” from the movie Moana. Miranda is known for his Broadway musicals Hamilton and In the Heights. However, this is the first time he will be performing at the Oscars. At 16 years old and voice of the Moana in the movie, Cravalho will also be performing at the Oscars for the first time.

From the movie Jim: The James Foley Story, Sting will sing “The Empty Chair.” He has been nominated for an Oscar three times previously in the same category.

Many winners from the 2016 Oscars will be presenting this year. This group includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Brie Larson, Mark Rylance and Alicia Vikander.

Other presenters include Amy Adams, Riz Ahmed, Javier Bardem, John Cho, Dwayne Johnson, Felicity Jones, Leslie Mann, Janelle Monáe, David Oyelowo, Emma Stone, Charlize Therone, Halle Berry, Jamie Dornan, Chris Evans, Gael Garcia Bernal, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Dakota Johnson, Kate McKinnon, Shirley MacLaine and Hailee Steinfeld.

And, as The Hollywood Reporter previously reported, Bonnie and Clyde stars Warren Beatty will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the film’s release by co-presenting the best picture Oscar.

This year, La La Land lrsfd the pack with 14 nominations, tying it for the most nominations for any movie in history with Titanic and All About Eve. The categories for La La Land include best picture, best director (Damien Chazelle), best actor in a leading role (Ryan Gosling), best actress in a leading role (Emma Stone) and two for best song.

Moonlight follows with eight nominations for best picture, director (Barry Jenkins),  best actor in a supporting role (Mahershala Ali) and best actress in a supporting role (Naomie Harris). Also receiving eight nominations is Arrival for production design, cinematography, sound, best picture and director (Denis Villeneuve).

Lion, Manchester by the Sea and Hacksaw Ridge each received six nominations.
