Joss Whedon’s Reaction To The Wonder Woman Trailer Is Priceless

Background

It’s a good weekend to be a comic book fan. San Diego Comic-Con is in full effect, and major film franchises have been giving us great tastes of upcoming entries. This is exactly the case for the DC Extended Universe, which just released the first trailer for Wonder Woman starring Gal Gadot. Check out the Amazonian goodness below.

The superhero movie genre is full of films that came close to fruition at one time or another, but never fully panned out. One such project that never had the opportunity to materialize is none other than Joss Whedon’s Wonder Woman. Although Patty Jenkins’ has taken the reigns to bring the Amazon’s solo movie to life, Whedon has definitely kept up with the project. The Avengers director recently opened up about seeing the Wonder Woman trailer for the first time, and it was apparently a very bizarre experience. Whedon explained:

“I want it to be good. The trailer was just wonderful. I’ll probably be disappointed, me more than anybody else, because I’ll be like, ‘Wow, my version…’ or whatever, but I can still get myself up for it. The trailer had her shield and her fire hammer and yep, I’m good, this will be fine, everything is good. Such an image.”

Joss Whedon recently spoke to Complex about the experience of watching the trailer for Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman for the very first time, and it was apparently a fairly weird experience for him. Having almost taken the reigns on a Wonder Woman movie of his very own a number of years ago, Whedon continues to feel a certain closeness to the material. As a result of this closeness, he will likely find himself disappointed by the Wonder Woman movie, no matter how good it actually is. The way he describes it, it sounds like seeing an ex with his or her new significant other in public, and trying to play it cool.

Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman

Of course, Joss Whedon makes a very specific point to note that Wonder Womancertainly looks good. Although he has a hard time getting around the fact that he feels linked to the source material, he notes in his statement that Patty Jenkins definitely seems to have nailed the look and feel of the character. Everything important is represented, so Wonder Woman will at the very least feel like a faithful and proper adaptation of the classic DC heroine.

Check out the first official Wonder Woman trailer below:

While we’re insanely excited to see what Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot do with the character, a Joss Whedon led Wonder Woman movie would’ve been an awesome sight. Over the years he has proven time and time again that he’s an incredibly talented writer and director with female-driven properties. Considering the work he has done with characters like Buffy Summers and Black Widow over the years, it’s entirely possible that his take on Wonder Woman would’ve been something truly special. With any luck, he will get his hands on a Wonder Woman sequel someday.

CinemaBlend will keep you poste with all of the latest and greatest news related to the Wonder Woman solo movie as more information becomes available. Diana Prince’s solo movie will blast into theaters next summer on June 2, 2017. Stay tuned for more details!
