Six pieces of intel from the final ‘Rogue One’ trailer

With just over two months left until Darth Vader and the Empire loom again on the big screen — and Felicity Jones’ rebellious heroine Jyn Erso makes her debut — the final Rogue One: A Star Wars Story trailer dropped on Good Morning America like a blast from the Death Star. Check it out:

So what’s new and interesting in the galaxy? Let’s break it down:

Hey, it’s Jyn’s dad!

We knew Mads Mikkelsen was playing Galen Erso but this is the first time we see him as he tells his little girl, “Jyn, whatever I do, I do it to protect you.” Fathers have always factored big time into Star Wars films — Anakin Skywalker, Han Solo, etc. — and Rogue One is no different: Galen is key to the Empire building their planet-sized weapon of mass destruction, the Empire’s Director Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn) seems to know him very well, and Galen’s presence in this situation is one of the reasons why Jyn signs on to help steal the Death Star plans.

The Death Star is really big, y’all.

That was readily apparent to pretty much anybody who saw it in the original Star Wars but the sizable superweapon is seen here on a cloud-covered horizon looking more menacing than ever. (It’s no Starkiller Base, but still.)

‘It’s Rogue … Rogue One.’

Well, now we know how the movie got its title. Jyn and her band of Rebels are heading somewhere, maybe into enemy territory, when they need to give a call sign, and pilot ex-Imperial pilot Bodhi Rook (Riz Ahmed) gives the Rogue One handle. Solid name, Bodhi.

Everybody’s going undercover.

Our heroes have to sneak around during their mission and here’s how they do it: Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) snags the suit of an Imperial officer and Jyn dresses up as a member of the ground crew. The new droid K-2SO doesn’t have to do much since he already has an Imperial cog symbol on his arm. So that’s helpful!

X-wings swing into battle.

We saw them a bunch in the original trilogy and Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron can fly an X-wing Fighter like no one’s business in The Force Awakens, but it’s always neat to see them strafing Imperial space stations and whatnot.

Darth Vader’s on the move.

The previous trailer revealed the back of his head and the familiar heavy breathing. This time he’s both interacting with Krennic, who’s boasting about how cool the Death Star’s gonna be (“The power that we are dealing with here is immeasurable”), and showcasing one serious power walk.
