The latest look at this month’s highly anticipated action sequel,John Wick: Chapter 4, teases the thrilling battle between Keanu Reeves and martial arts legend Donnie Yen. Shown during The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the clip sees the pair come face-to-face, with weapons in hand, before exploding into an onslaught of gunfire and clashing swords (and nunchucks). John Wick: Chapter 4 finds the titular assassin uncovering a path to defeating the High Table, but before he can earn his freedom, Wick must face off against a new enemy with powerful alliances across the globe and forces that turn old friends into new foes. With the price on his head ever-increasing, John Wick: Chapter 4 sees Wick takes his fight against the High Table global as he seeks out the most powerful players in the underworld, from New York to Paris to Osaka to Berlin.
One of the enemies is Ip Man and Rogue One star Donnie Yen as Caine, a blind High Table assassin and former friend of John Wick. Clearly wielding the level of lethal skill that one would expect from Yen, the battle between Caine and Wick is sure to be on the sequel’s highlights. And is it just us, or does the typically fearless Wick seem afraid of this particular assassin?
John Wick: Chapter 4 Now Sits at 91% on Rotten Tomatoes
The response to John Wick: Chapter 4, which premiered at the recent SXSW event, has been overwhelmingly positive. MovieWeb’s own Matthew Mahler praised John Wick: Chapter 4 for reflecting “all that is exciting, gripping, and joyous” about the action genre, and felt that the sequel acts as the perfect epilogue saying, “The film almost exists in its own universe, separate from the breathless and relentless trilogy of the first three films, and able to stand alone as a kind of epic epilogue.”
Directed by Chad Stahelski and written by Shay Hatten and Michael Finch, John Wick: Chapter 4 stars Keanu Reeves as the titular John Wick alongside Bill Skarsgård (It, Barbarian) as the main antagonist, The Marquis de Gramont. The rest of the cast includes Donnie Yen as Caine, Clancy Brown (The Mandalorian, Promising Young Woman) as The Harbinger, Scott Adkins (Day Shift, Boyka: Undisputed) as Killa, Hiroyuki Sanada (Mortal Kombat, The Last Samurai) as Shimazu, Shamier Anderson (Stowaway, Awake) as The Tracker, Rina Sawayama (Turn Up Charlie) as Akira, Marko Zaror (From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series, Marvel’s The Defenders) as Chidi, George Georgiou (Game of Thrones) as The Elder, and Natalia Tena (The Mandalorian, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) as Katia, John Wick’s adoptive sister.
The sequel also sees Ian McShane, Laurence Fishburne, and Lance Reddick reprise their respective roles as Winston Scott, the Bowery King, and Charon, the concierge at the Continental Hotel.
