Another year, another San Diego Comic-Con has come and gone. That leaves us with nothing but fond memories and a handful of choice trailers to obsess over.

This year’s Comic-Con felt a little light. Marvel Studios and HBO chose not to attend, which meant no fresh looks at Captain Marvel or Game of Thrones, but it wasn’t a total wash. First looks at movies like Aquaman and Shazam gave us just enough to obsess over. Doctor Who finally teased Jodie Whittaker’s 13th doctor in action, and Godzilla: King of the Monsters managed to leave us very impressed.

Here are some of the best trailers that came out of Comic-Con this year.

SHAZAM!

Shazam!’s first teaser is pure, youthful delight, and it shines brightly within a comparatively dark DC Extended Universe.

The trailer introduces Billy Bastion (Asher Angel), a foster kid who is granted the ability (by a wizard named Shazam) to transform into the fully grown superhero Shazam (Zachary Levi) when he says the word … Shazam. I’ve watched the Shazam! teaser at least six times for the little moments, like Shazam doing the backpack kid dance to stopping a robbery with a casual, “Oh hey. What’s up? I’m a superhero.”

Full of pure goofs and excitement, Shazam!’s trailer was certainly an electrifying introduction to the film, which will be released on April 5, 2019.

FANTASTIC BEASTS: CRIMES OF GRINDELWALD

Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald weaves together a story based on an incredibly important moment in the Potterverse: War is brewing. Gellert Grindelwald, an evil wizard who believes in wizard supremacy, launches an effort to reclaim the world from muggles (a.k.a. non-magical people).

The trailer does a great job of not only introducing the central conflict facing the wizarding community, but also hinting at how the film will handle a young Albus Dumbledore’s relationship with Grindelwald. That’s a key component to the film, as is the impending war.

Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald will be released on Nov. 16.

GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS

Godzilla: King of the Monsters follows Madison Russell (Mille Bobby Brown), who gets kidnapped, along with her mother, by a mysterious group that we can say pretty confidently is Monarch — the secret organization created to hunt and study monsters like Godzilla.

The trailer focuses heavily into Millie Bobby Brown’s character, which is just enough to leave us feeling intrigued about what happens next. Plus, there are some pretty spectacular appearances from a couple of notable monsters.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters will be released on March 31, 2019.

DOCTOR WHO

It’s always exciting to see the first glimpses of the new Doctor. Now that Jodie Whittaker has taken up the mantle, it’s especially exciting to see what her take on the beloved Timelord is going to bring. It’s just a teaser, but already the 13th Doctor promises whimsy and adventure. We get the first peeks at the new companions and a wonderful tagline — “The universe is calling” — that evokes the starry-eyed wonder of the series.

Doctor Who returns this fall.

MARVEL RISING

It’s high time Marvel had an animated show focusing on teenage superheroes. The ragtag band of heroes — Ms. Marvel, Squirrel Girl, Patriot, Quake, and Spider Ghost — coming together to save the world already sounds like a good time. The best part of shows about teenage superheroes is the juggle between hero life and teen life, and there’s sure to be plenty of that in Marvel Rising: Initiation. It’s also super (haha) cool to see such a diverse cast lineup. Plus, Squirrel Girl?! Sign me up.

Marvel Rising will premiere later this year.

STEVEN UNIVERSE: THE MOVIE

All the major plot points and mysteries in Steven Universe have been wrapping up, but no one expected a movie. Even though this teaser is 15 seconds, it’s very … multifaceted. A turning gemstone shows off silhouettes of the main cast, but an ominous unknown figure appears as the gem makes its final turn, a creepy laugh echoing alongside it. Who is this mysterious figure? What does this mean for the state of Homeworld and Planet Earth?

Steven Universe: The Movie doesn’t have a release date.

VOLTRON: LEGENDARY DEFENDER

Voltron’s sixth season felt like a brief resolution — finally, the paladins were able to head back to Earth (and hopefully rest for a bit) for the first time since they had launched into space.

The trailer for season seven completely upended that notion. Not only are the paladins still in crisis, but so is Earth and, as per usual, the universe itself. While Voltron: Legendary Defender has never shied away from dealing with consequences, this trailer heralds the endgame of the series.

Season seven of Voltron: Legendary Defender comes out on Aug. 10, 2018.

THE DRAGON PRINCE

From a team of Avatar: the Last Airbender veterans comes The Dragon Prince, a highly-anticipated fantasy series that tells the story of two princes that team up with an elven assassin that tried to kill them in order to bring peace to their kingdoms.

This trailer is the first true look at the series, and throws the conflict between humans and elves into the open. It also introduces the main characters: Prince Callum, Prince Ezran, and Rayla the moonshadow elf.

The Dragon Prince will be available on Netflix on Sep. 14, 2018.
