Monday’s 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards might as well have taken place in Wakanda, because Black Panther won all the awards and, arguably, the acceptance speeches. The movie’s star, Chadwick Boseman, took home Best Performance in a Movie and Best Hero. But he had a different hero in mind while accepting his golden popcorn for Best Hero.

“It’s even greater to acknowledge the heroes that we have in real life,” Boseman said. “So I just want to acknowledge somebody that’s here today. James Shaw Jr. — where are you?”

James Shaw Jr. has been hailed for disarming a gunman at a Waffle House near Nashville back in April, and Boseman wanted to take this recognition one step further. He invited Shaw onstage and gave him the golden popcorn, saying, “This is gonna live at your house.”

Michael B. Jordan also won for Black Panther, earning Best Villain. And with all due respect to the host of the evening, Tiffany Haddish, Jordan may have also won the best joke of the night.

“I’m shocked that I won this award for best villain,” Jordan said. “I thought for sure Roseanne had that in the bag, you know. Crazy.”

And even though he plays a bad guy on the big screen, we learned that in real life, Jordan is actually looking out for his pal Black Panther.

“One more thing,” Jordan said to close. “Chadwick Boseman. He personally asked me to ask y’all to stop asking him to say ‘Wakanda forever’ out in the streets. Y’all taking the forever thing a little too seriously.”
